On January 18th, Wang Yang, Secretary of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, Governor of Guangdong Province Huang Huahua and other officials have an informal meeting with the former president of our university Professor Huang Daren, Secretary of Party Committee Professor Zheng Detao and the present president Academician Xu Ningsheng.


At the beginning of the meeting, Secretary Wang Yang highly valued the hard work of Professor Huang Deren during the period being the president of Sun Yat-Sen University, and expressed thanks to Professor Huang Deren for his contribution to the development of Sun Yat-Sen University and the high education in Guangdong as well as the prosperous of economy and society. Secretary Wang Yang hopes that Professor Huang Deren would support Sun Yat-Sen University and the development of Guangdong.

Professor Huang Deren expressed his sincere thanks for the concerns of Secretary Wang Yang and Governor Huang Huahua. He said receiving the appreciation from Secretary Wang Yang and Governor Huang Huahua is not only his personal honor, but also the motivate power for Sun Yat-Sen University. He restated that without the support of the Guangdong people, Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Guangdong Provincial Government, Sun Yat-Sen University cannot gain so many achievements. Professor Huang Deren believes that under the leadership of the new leading group, Sun Yat-Sen University will develop better.

The president Academician Xu Ningsheng gave a report to Secretary Wang Yang and Governor Huang Huahua about the working plan of Sun Yat-Sen University in the next five to ten years. He said in the following five to ten years, Sun Yat-Sen University should make full use of the advantages of Guangdong's economic development in transitional period, with the position of providing comprehensive service, to make greater contribution to various field in Guangdong, such as education, science and technology, medical treatment, culture and industry.

Secretary of Party Committee Professor Zheng Detao stated that the working plan reported by the president Academician Xu Ningsheng is made after careful discussion. The reception from Secretary Wang Yang and Governor Huang Huahua and their appreciation to our university are the great encouragement to the staff of SYSU.

At the end of the meeting, Secretary Wang Yang pointed out that he was so happy to see the harmonious relationship between the former and present leading groups of our university. He said the provincial government paid great importance to the development of Sun Yat-Sen University and would support Sun Yat-Sen University all the time.

After the meeting, Secretary Wang Yang and Governor Huang Huahua entertained the leaders of SYSU.
