U.S. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson Visited SYSU and Delivered A Keynote Speech

Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of U.S & China cooperation, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator Lisa Jackson visited SunYat-senUniversity on Oct. 12 and delivered a keynote speech at the Swasey Hall on the south campus. The lecture was hosted by SYSU vice president Yan Guangmei. Over 200 teachers and students from Schoolof Science and Technology, School of Environment Science & Engineering, School of Geography & Planning attended the lecture.

Themed at “30 Years of U.S. & China Environmental Cooperation”, Administrator Jackson talked about the environmental protection, U.S. & China environmental cooperation and so on. She expected that this lecture would make SYSU teachers and students know more about the environmental policy setting in U.S. and further enhance the bilateral cooperation and communication. After the speech, Lisa Jackson answered questions raised by the audience and expressed her appreciation to the students’ questions and academic competence.

Before the speech, vice president Yan Guangmei had a courtesy meeting with administrator Jackson and her delegation. Shu Yuan, President of Lingnan College and Xu Yao, vice Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, were present at the meeting.

Administrator Jackson is a distinguished graduate from American Tulane University and got the master’s degree for Chemical Engineering in PrincetonUniversity. Before she became the EPA administrator, Lisa Jackson took office as the head of New Jersey EPA and the chief of staff of Governor Jon Corkin.
