Deputy Secretary and Vice President Yu Shiyou Attended 2010 Confucius Institute Joint Meeting
The 2010 Confucius Institute joint meeting from East Asia and Northeast Asia region was held in Singapore from June 26
th to 27
th. About 120 Chinese and foreign directors of Confucius Institute from eleven countries and regions including Japan, South Korea, Philippine, Mongolia, Malaysia and Thailand, and presidents of joint institutes of Confucius Institute in mainland China attended the meeting. Attendants shared experiences of Confucius Institute development for the purpose of strengthening cooperation and promoting the sustainable development of Confucius Institute in Asia. Yu Shiyou, deputy secretary and vice president of SYSU attended the meeting.
In the meeting, as the only representative of joint institute in mainland China, SYSU gave a keynote speech on the development of Confucius Institute, and gave a report on the development of Base for International Chinese Teaching Materials Development and Teaching Training, Sun Yat-sen University. The speech and report were highly appraised among attendants.
Till now, SYSU has jointly built five Confucius Institute abroad. They are Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila University, Confucius Institute at The Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, Confucius Institute at American University of Indianapolis, Confucius Institute at Lyon France, Confucius Institute at University of Cape Town. Among them, Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila University is the only one built in Southeast Asia and the earliest one that SYSU has jointly built overseas.
