Light Candles and Pray for Yushu

On the night of April 21, 2010, SYSU students hold separate activities on the four campuses. They lit candles, mourned the dead in the earthquake of Yushu: may the victims rest in peace and survivors be strong.

On the site of the activities, the lit candles were put together into a huge “heart” shape and a large pattern of “4.14”. Students piled to the site of the activities in groups. They bowed,, prayed silently, with the candles in their hands glittering in the breeze. “Never cry, Yushu! Fight, Yushu!” Don’t be scared, Yushu! All those love and homes gone, China will give them back to you!”------ On the site of the activity on the East Campus, students left their words one after another on the “Love Wall”. A word from a student from Qinghai Province appeared very special,” Qinghai, my beautiful hometown, we must be strong! Thanks for all the prayers from SYSU students, thanks for all the affections of the people of Guangdong, and thanks for all the help of all Chinese people!”

Even after the activities, a lot of students still lingered in front of the “heart” shape and the pattern of “4.14”, with candles in their hands, reluctant to leave.
