Retired University Cadres Make Active Donations for the Drought-hit Areas in Southwestern China
In response to the calling of the Party committee and trade union of the University, the retired university faculty members have been actively engaged in the donation to the drought-hit areas in southwestern China. Nearly 500 retired faculty members and administrative staff from south campus and north campus have donated more than 70,000 yuan.
A retired cadre with illness went to the donation site in the wheelchair, and put the money into the donation box. Another retired cadre, who lives in Baiyun District and seldom takes a long trip out had taken transferred buses to the University on purpose to donate what he had saved. And an elderly professor, who is under the treatment of lumbar spondylitis, donated 1,000 yuan. The donation staff advised him to donate less, but he insisted and said that “every one should assume the responsibility by helping the nation getting through the hardships. And as university teachers, we should shoulder the burden of the nation”. A retired cadre suffering from illness urged his family and the colleague who visits her to make a donation on her behalf.
Natural disasters are merciless, but the people are not. With the warm hearts, and joining the efforts with our citizens, the retired cadres at the University had exerted their efforts and made contributions to the drought relief endeavors.
