Former President of National Chiao Tung University Visited SYSU

Professor Zhang Junyan, former president of National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, academician of National Academy of Engineering, U.S., and academician of Academia Sinica, Taiwan was invited to visit Sun Yat-sen University from 12-15 April. Prof. Zhang exchanged views with academic staff at National Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Materials and Technology and the School of Physics and Engineering.

Prof. Zhang visited Guangdong Key Laboratory of Display Materials and Technology on 13 April, and gave an academic report titled "the Development of Green Energy Electronic Components” at Huaishi Hall, reviewing the emergence, development and leading process of Taiwan's semiconductor industry in the past 50 years, and introducing the future development of semiconductor technology. Prof. Zhang also introduced the development of high-performance light-emitting diodes, solar cells and energy-efficient energy storage and other cutting-edge semiconductor technology.

Prof. Zhang Junyan is a senior expert in the field of semiconductors. He has been playing a leading role in the research of microelectronics and semiconductor since 1964 when he started to engage in the research and development of silicon transistors. And he has been acclaimed as “father of semiconductor in Taiwan”. Prof. Zhang has been teaching for nearly half a century, and assumed two terms of presidency of National Chiao Tung University, and made remarkable contributions to Taiwan’s education.
