Appeal for Donations for Southwest China
As of Wednesday, the worst drought in 100 years, which hit southwestern China last year, has left 19.4 million people with water shortages and affected 97.2 million mu (6.48 million hectares) of farmland in provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan as well as Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the city of Chongqing. What’s more, the severe drought continues to expand in China.
To get through the hardship successfully, both our government and the public have made great efforts. Thousands of troops are on their way to help with drought relief in YunnanProvince on Friday, and another 3000 would be sent in the next few days, said Li Shiming, commander of the Chengdu military command.
