Jan 16th. Xu Lin, the director of the State Leading Group Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) and the director –general of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, and his entourage visited the teachers and students of the Confucius Institute co-founded by SYSU and the Ateneo de Manila Universityof Philippines, and provided guidance.

Mr. Xu visited the venue of the Confucius Institute which is under construction at the Ateneo de Manila University and listened to the reports made by the presidents from both universities regarding the progress of the college in the past three years Mr. Xu fully affirmed the work of the Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila Universityand also said that it is a positive move the Confucius institute has taken in utilizing its own facilities and promoting persistently the Chinese language and culture in the mainstream. and that the success reflected the importance the two parties attached to the development of the Confucius Institute which is the foundation of the development of the institute.

Co-founded by SYSU and the Ateneo de Manila University, the Confucius Institute of the Ateneo de Manila Universityis the first Confucius Institute of SYSU endorsed overseas and is also the first Confucius Institute of Philippines. Since its inception in Oct. 2006, the institute has received more than 3000 of people; its students are mostly social elites and professionals in Philippines including many government officials and people of international organizations, Meanwhile, the Confucius institute had also conducted many cultural events to promote Chinese culture in the Philippine community.
