2009, that is ending immediately, marks the 60th birthday of NewPRC China and the 85th anniversary of the founding of SYSU. In retrospect of the glorious history of the past 85 years, the development of SYSU has always been closely tied with the fate of our nation. Bearing glorious mission and heavy responsibility, only with the concerted efforts and practice of scientific development, can the SYSU staff and students repay and live up to the trust and the expectations of the nation and people. In 2009, a year that is filled with united endeavors, with the selfless devotion of all the SYSU staff and students and the concerned support from friends from all fields of society, SYSU initiates the in-depth study of practice of scientific development, seizes the opportunity to gradually further the reform, spurs the academic research with long accumulation, cultivates talents to stand out, provides academic services to society, attains remarkable achievements in different fields, and lays a solid ground for building SYSU as a university of high-caliber.
