SYSU Cooperates with France to Build School of Nuclear Power Together

Guangzhou, December 23, 009 (Xin Kuai Bao): Newly launched by Sun Yat-sen University and France, the Schoolof Nuclear Power will formally enroll new students by September 2010. After completing six years’ of study, the graduates will obtain "three certificates", namely French "Nuclear Engineer Certificate of Chinese-French Nuclear Engineering and Technology College ", Master's Degree Certificate and Diploma of SYSU concurrently.

On the evening of 23rd, Premier Wen Jiabao and French Prime Minister Francois Fillon jointly attended the signing ceremony for a series of cooperation documents between China and France, where SunYat-senUniversity signed formally with the French Civil Nuclear Engineer Teaching Alliance (FINUCI). Premier Wen Jiabao and the President of SYSU Huang Daren shook hands twice at the ceremony cordially to express congratulations. It is learned that the school aims to build a high-level educational institution on the civilian nuclear energy field, making use of the educational resources from both sides and to train highly qualified engineers for the two countries to apply nuclear energy in the civilian field. The new school will bring in the preparatory course educational system of the French elite schools, with the facilities of the education of the French engineers as the basic element.

The school will be located on the Zhuhai Campus of SunYat-senUniversity, and it is expected to begin enrollment in September 2010, and will admit around 100 students per semester for the first few years. What’s special about the school is that the college education system is six years, dividing into a three-year elite schools preparatory phase and a three-year engineer phase.
