On December 10^th, the Gambling Research Center of SYSU – Macao Polytechnic Institute was formally established in Macao. Li Xiangyu, President of Macao Polytechnic Institute, Huang Daren, President of Sun Yat-sen University, attended the opening ceremony and addressed.

Developing its advantage of multidisciplinary and comprehensive researching, Sun Yat-sen University co-constructed the Gambling Research Center with the Macao Polytechnic Institute. The Gambling Research Center is the outcome of the cooperation between Guangdong and Macao Higher education. It will operate under the management of the Center for studies of Hong Kong, Macao and Pear River Delta, SYSU.

In his acknowledgement President Huang Daren stated that, as the featured studies of SYSU, the Center for studies of Hong Kong, Macao and Pearl River Delta, SYSU, had long been focused on the development of Hong Kong and Macao. As the pillar industry of Macao, gambling is closely linked to the prosperity and stability of Macao. In recent years, gambling has also exerted an increasing influence on the development of the Mainland. Therefore, Sun Yat-sen University and Macao Polytechnic Institute jointly established the Gambling Research Center, with the main scientific research power being researchers for Hong Kong and Macao of SYSU as well as the researchers for gambling of Macao Polytechnic Institute. The Gambling Research Center will make an all-round research on the development, the regulation system and the social political effect of lottery industry, which will contribute to the economic development and stability of Macao. Meanwhile, as President Huang Daren pointed out, the establishment of the Gambling Research Center is the outcome of the cooperation between Guangdong and Macao Higher Education, it has been commonly recognized that the cooperation needs to be enhanced among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and that it demands the active participation of the academic circles The Gamble Research Center is an important indication of the closer cooperation between Sun Yat-sen University and Macao Polytechnic Institute and will further promote the communication and cooperation between the two universities as well as the academic circles of the two districts.

As the specially invited guests, Li Zhongfei, Director of office of Social Sciences and Humanities, SYSU, Chen Guang, Director of the Center for studies of Hong Kong, Macao and Pearl River Delta, SYSU, as well as the persons in charge of foreign affairs office and other relevant departments attended the opening ceremony.
