Ms. Cheung Ying (Cathy) Yeung studied for her LL.B. from 1981 to 1985 in School of Law at SYSU. Ms. Yeung is now the Corporate Department Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Hong Kong office and Co-chair of the firm’s Greater China Practice.

Ms. Yeung recalled that the four years at SYSU was the best time of her youth. When she was a junior, she had the dream to become a university teacher, and so she decided to study for her master’s degree in civil law in Renmin University of China (RUC). She studied hard and her dream came true. After graduation from RUC, she returned to SYSU and taught in the Department of Law.
However, Ms. Yeung had to abandon her dream of becoming a professor after she moved to Hong Kong with her husband in early 1990s. Then she had a new dream: to become a lawyer in Hong Kong. Through hard work, she became a qualified lawyer in Hong Kong and was employed by Allen & Overy. Five years ago, Ms. Yeung joined another international law firm Latham & Watkins and realized her dream of becoming an excellent international lawyer.
Drawing from her own experiences, Ms. Yeung said: with dream there is hope; with hope there is future; with efforts your dream can come true and your fate can be changed.
