The documentary “Eyes of Hope” was recently featured on CGTN, showcasing the impactful journey of Sun Yat-sen University’s Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC) medical team in establishing the China-Maldives International Ophthalmology Center.

For years, thousands in the Maldives have struggled with cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy, facing limited treatment options. Since the “Bright Journey” in 2016, Chinese medical teams have brought free eye screenings, surgeries, and cutting-edge technology to enhance local eye care.

Over the past decade, ZOC has helped treat over 6,000 patients and performed 700 surgeries, restoring not just sight, but also hope and a brighter future. By training a large number of local eye care professionals, ZOC has greatly improved the quality of ophthalmic medical services in the region.
