Prof. Javier LLorca from IMDEA Materials Institute visits SYSU

On April 11, Professor Javier LLorca, Academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Scientific Director of Spain's IMDEA Materials Institute, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Prof. Qi ZHANG, Vice President of SYSU, attended the meeting.

Vice President Qi ZHANG provided an overview of the university's history, recent developments, and achievements in teaching and research, as well as detailed the status of cooperation and exchanges with Spain. She also outlined promising prospects for collaboration in the field of materials science. Qi ZHANG emphasized that Sun Yat‑sen University attaches great importance to its partnership with Spanish institutions, expressed hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to deepen international cooperation and enhance research platform development with the IMDEA Materials Institute.

Prof. Javier LLorca expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and introduced the research orientation, development strategy, and talent model of the IMDEA Materials Institute. He shared advanced experiences in the institute's core fields, collaborative approaches, and technology transfer models, and looked forward to further academic exchanges and research collaborations with Sun Yat-sen University.

In addition, Prof. Chengyong SU, Dean of the School of Chemistry; Professor Bin XI, Assistant Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering; and leaders from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange attended the discussion. They introduced the development and strengths of their respective schools and discussed potential opportunities for disciplinary cooperation with the visiting delegation.

The IMDEA Materials Institute, established by the Government of the Madrid Region, is a public research institution dedicated to cutting-edge fundamental research in materials science. It is recognized as a spanish national excellence research center and stands as one of Europe's leading centers for nurturing innovative talent. With internationally advanced research facilities and a top-tier global research team, the institute has achieved world-leading standards in areas such as flame retardant materials, functional nanocomposites, and computational simulation of materials data.
