Research fields:Earth System Modeling, Land modeling, Land-atmosphere interaction
While numerous scientists use climate models, very few are developers due to the requirement of substantial experience and efforts. Prof. Dai is one of the best-known developers of both land model and gridded data in the world. These model and data developments enable a variety of applications by the international community:
1.He led the development of “The Common Land Model (CoLM)” for climate research and applications. The superior results of CoLM also led to its implementation in numerical weather prediction models, climate models and earth system models.
2. He has been a pioneer in developing value-added global and regional datasets, such as the high-resolution global land datasets. These datasets are publicly available. These land model and data developments have improved the land modeling, and improved the understanding of land-atmosphere interactions.
