National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou
With an area of 42,332 square meters, the center encompasses functional rooms such as the main computer room, storage room, high and low-voltage power distribution room, cooling equipment room, and ancillary rooms. Its operational mainframe, the “Tianhe-2” system, achieves a peak computing speed of 10.07 petaflops per second and a sustained computing speed of 6.14 petaflops per second, which is taking a leading position internationally.

TianQin Center for Gravitational Physics
The Tianqin project is a space-based gravitational wave detection initiative. It is anticipated that around 2035, three identical satellites will be deployed in Earth’s orbit at an altitude of approximately 100,000 kilometers, forming an equilateral triangular constellation with a side length of about 170,000 kilometers to establish a space gravitational wave observatory for cutting-edge research in fundamental physics, astrophysics, and cosmology.

Center of Ocean Expedition of Sun Yat-sen University
The marine comprehensive scientific research vessel represents a new generation of comprehensive research vessels in China, featuring the largest domestically designed displacement and the highest degree of technological innovation integration. With global navigation capabilities in unrestricted navigation areas (including adjacent ice zones), it aims to become an internationally advanced, globally accessible, and multifaceted mobile marine research platform and talent cultivation base across multiple disciplines, fields, and functions, serving the country’s major development needs.
As of May 2024, it has completed 17 voyage missions (segments) in the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean.

Polar Science Center of Sun Yat-sen University
The Polar Science Center at Sun Yat-sen University specializes in multi-disciplinary research pertaining to polar climates and detection, and holds the responsibility for the operation of the Polar Research Vessel “ZHONG SHAN DA XUE JI DI”, which is not only China’s third polar research icebreaker but also the inaugural such vessel owned by a university.

Center for Precision Medicine
It is an internationally advanced, highly integrated, open, and shared medical innovation center that boasts three satellite Bio-banks with a storage capacity of 800 million samples. Furthermore, its biomedical Big Data platform has independently developed a medical image AI system, along with other bioinformatics data processing systems.

Sun Yat-sen University Neutron Scattering Spectrometer
SYSU Spectrometer is the first high-energy direct-geometry inelastic neutron scattering time-of-flight spectrometer in China. Upon completion, it will become a vital platform for studying magnetic materials and dynamic properties of matter science in China, breaking through constraints in frontier research in related basic and applied fields, and supporting multidisciplinary project research at the university.

By harnessing the resources of various disciplines, including chemistry, pharmacy, materials science and engineering, chemical engineering and technology, energy, and others, the institute has successfully established “three centers and two platforms” around green chemistry. SML, a government-owned and university-operated entity, adopts a director responsibility system supervised by a governing board. It allies with 41 domestic and international partners based on mutual benefits. Its organizational structure features innovative teams, research centers, public platforms, and efficient admin departments, aiming to be a world-class marine science and technology lab.
