The 13th OESO World Congress was held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on August 31-September 3, 2015. OESO (World Organization of Specialized Studies on Diseases of the Esophagus, OESO) is an international scientific organization of world’s leading specialists from 19 disciplines, with the same research interest in esophagus. The OESO World Congress is one of the most important and historical world conferences in the domain of esophagology. This year, the theme of the conference was esophagiome, a concept which enlightened diverse aspects of the function and diseases of the esophagus, placing particular attention on the multiple disciplines.

Research teams from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC) and Guangdong Esophageal Cancer Institute (GECI) presented 10 papers, accounting for 30% of the total number of papers by Chinese researchers at the conference. All these researches focused on the standardization, minimal-invasion and precision therapy of esophageal cancer through different aspects. The research results in the presentations were highly recognized by the international peers. It represents a milestone in the developing history of esophageal cancer research in our university and will bring about more breakthroughs in the upcoming future.
