Recently, hosted by Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences (CAPS), undertaken by SYSU national high quality course Physiology, national teaching team of Experimental Physiological Science and Guangdong Association for Physiological Sciences (GAPS), the "2013 CAPS physiology experiment technology training course" was held at SYSU. A total of more than 100 teachers from universities across the country attended the seven-day study and discussion.
Professor Li Mengfeng, Vice President of SYSU; Ms. Xiao Ling, deputy secretary general of CAPS; Professor Xiao Peng, vice president of GAPS; Ms. Wang Shuzhen, deputy director of Dean’s Office of Medical Education Affairs of SYSU; Professor Wu Zhongdao, deputy dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine; Ms. Chen Qiongzhu, deputy dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine; Professor Pan Jingyun, leader of SYSU medical supervision group and senior cardiovascular physiology expert, attended the opening ceremony and made a speech. The meeting was presided over by Professor Wang Tinghuai, Deputy Director of Faculty of Medical Sciences of SYSU, National Distinguished Teacher, President of GAPS, and leader of national high quality course Physiology and national teaching team of Experimental Physiological Science.
This training course centered closely around the theme of "Share classical and modern wisdom of physiological sciences, develop physiology experiment teaching and technology", and carried out the discussions with substantial contents and various forms.
The national distinguished teacher Professor Wang Tinghuai lectured on “the trend of reform and development of experimental physiological science", "ideas and experience of transformation and upgrading of the national high-quality course Physiology", "the application of TBL method in physiology teaching", and discussed for the first time the applications of TBL to the teaching of experimental physiological science with backbone teachers from across the country. In in-class presentations, the trainees showed great interest and participated in the discussion actively and enthusiastically. Professor Luo Ziqiang from the physiology teaching & research section of Xiangya Medical School, Central South University; Professor Yang Huiling, director of pathophysiology teaching & research section, Zhongshan School of Medicine; Associate Professor Wang Xuelan, deputy director of pharmacology teaching & research section, Zhongshan School of Medicine; and Associate Professor Cui Yu from physiology teaching & research section of Zhongshan School of Medicine, gave a lecture on animal ethics in physiology experiment teaching, establishment of pathological animal model, exploratory experimental teaching, and organization of basic medical skills competition respectively. Professor Wang Tinghuai demonstrated the experimental operation and discussed "how to turn verification experiment into exploratory experiment” with the trainees. The training course also invited Mr. Huang Wu, chairman of Chengdu Taimeng Technology Co., Ltd; Professor Xu Guobiao from Civil Aviation Flight University of China Guanghan Sub-College; and Dr. Luo Yiling from Chengdu Taimeng Technology Co., Ltd, to give a report on data processing in physiology experiment, the working principles and methods of commonly used instruments in drug experiment, and GLP standards in laboratory management.
The trainees also visited the clinical skills center, national experimental teaching demonstration center, museum of human body and medical science museum of SYSU.
This training course built a platform for teachers from medical universities and colleges nationwide to exchange and share their teaching experience of physiology experiment technology. It also demonstrated and spread the teaching idea and experience of SYSU’s national high quality course Physiology and the national teaching team of Experimental Physiological Science, raised the reputation of the University, won the praise of domestic peers, and promoted the development of physiology experiment teaching in China.
