"China has successfully integrated modernization with environmental preservation, creating a more pleasant living environment for individuals. I believe we in Europe can draw inspiration from this," said Louise Gaxie, director of the Gabriel Péri Foundation, during an interview with GDToday on November 25 at the Fifth High-Level Forum of Chinese and French Scholars.
The forum took place at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province—a campus that French President Emmanuel Macron visited in 2023. As China and France mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the university brought together Chinese and French scholars to exchange perspectives on the path to modernization.
What does China's path to modernization entail? How does it differ from Western models, and why is it significant on a global scale? Guillaume Roubaud-Quashie, president of the Gabriel Péri Foundation; Louise Gaxie, its director; and Stephen Reginald Rowley, professor and former vice rector at Artois University, shared their insights with GDToday.
