Fan Wang is a Professor at the School of Business, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), who is a recipient of the 2012 Distinguished Young Scholars Fund from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Prof. Wang earned his degrees from the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University (1993–2002). He began his career as a Staff Research Member at IBM Research Lab in Beijing (2002–2006) and was appointed to the Department of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (2003–2006) through the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Mainland Excellent Talent Program. Since joining SYSU in 2006, he has served as a full professor and held key leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Management Science (2006–2008), Associate Dean of the School of Business (2008–2016), Dean of the School of Business (2016–2023), Director of the SYSU Human Resource Office (2018–2020), and Assistant President of SYSU (2020–2023). In 2023, he was appointed Deputy Party Secretary of the SYSU Party Committee.
An accomplished scholar, Prof. Wang won the Asian Championship at the 1998 ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest World Finals. His accolades include the First Prize for Higher Education Teaching Achievement from the Beijing Municipal Government (2002), the IBM Global Faculty Research Award (2008), selection for the Ministry of Education (MOE)’s New Century Excellent Talents Program (2010), and the Second Prize for Higher Education Teaching Achievement from the MOE (2019).
Prof. Wang currently serves as President of the China Information Economics Society, a member of the NSFC’s Advisory Committee (Management Science Division), a member of the MOE’s Committee of Science and Technology (Management Division), Director of the MOE’s Philosophy and Social Science Laboratory for Big Data-Driven Management Behavior and Decision-Making, and Editor-in-Chief of SmartTech Innovations.
