On March 4, 2016, the Colorectal Cancer Committee of the Chinese Southwest Oncology Group (CSWOG-CRC) Inaugural Meeting was held in Soluxe Hotel Guangzhou.

After the establishment of CSWOG-CRC, Professor Tongyu Lin from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Professor Al. B Benson from Northwestern University of the United States and Professor Menghong Li from Guangdong Institute of Gastroenterology were invited to serve as the academic advisors of CSWOG-CRC.

Professor Jianping Wang, the chief expert of colorectal disease from the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, and Professor Houjie Liang from the Southwest Hospital was overwhelmingly elected as the first directors. Professor Yanhong Deng was elected the vice director who also acts as the secretary of the committee.

Professor Jianping Wang, the newly elected director pointed out in his speech that CSWOG-CRC is aimed at building an exchange and cooperation platform for medical professions in colorectal cancer field in China and an academic bridge from colorectal cancer researches to the world. It is reported that CSWOG-CRC assembles more than 100 national experts in colorectal cancer field, which will boost the investigation and treatment of colorectal cancer in China in the future.
