Nursing students of SYSU have won the second prize in the first National Baccalaureate Clinical Nursing Skills Competition

The Nursing Education Branch of the National Higher Education Association held the first National Baccalaureate Clinical Nursing Skills Competition in November, 2015 in Chongqing. More than 70 schools of Nursing from mainland China attended this competition. The students from School of Nursing, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), including Hu Yao, Chen Minjie, Zhao Jing and Xie Jia have won the second prize in the competition.

The theme of the Competition was “fusion, development and transcendence”. Every school have three student as a group to attend the competition. The students were asked to make nursing diagnosis based on the case, choose three nursing procedures from nine (Administering Oxygen, Peripheral Intravenous Infusion, Electrocardiogram Monitoring, Allergy Skin Testing, Intramuscular Injection, Assessing Vital Signs, Nasogastric Tube Insertion and Feeding, Sputum Suctioning) for the case and then implement the three procedures.

The Dean’s Office of Medical Education, SYSU; the First, Second and Third Affiliated hospitals and the Affiliated Cancer Centre have given suggestions, help and support to School of Nursing in preparing for the Competition. Four students worked very hard under the guidance of the tutoring team. The tutoring team consisted of faculty members from School of Nursing and nurses from the First, Second and Third Affiliated hospitals and the Affiliated Cancer Centre of SYSU. The students of SYSU have done a great job in the competition. The examiners of the Competition was impressed by SYSU students’ performance.
