The 6th National Forum of Graduate Students in Ophthalmology & World Congress on Ocular Cell and Regenerative Biology Successfully Held By Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center

On August 7-9, 2015, The 6th National Forum of Graduate Students in Ophthalmology & World Congress on Ocular Cell and Regenerative Biology was successfully held by Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University. This Forum was also supported by the Graduate School of Sun Yat-sen University and the State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology. Professor Liu Yizhi, Director of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, hosted the Conference. Nearly 30 ophthalmic research experts from all over the world were invited to give 27 lectures. More than 100 teachers and students from 17 key units of ophthalmology attended the Conference.

Professor Liu Yizhi delivered a welcome speech. He hoped that this Congress would deepen our understanding and knowledge of Ophthalmology and promote the friendship and exchanges between ophthalmic researchers.

Professor Napoleone Ferrara (member of National Academy of Sciences in the United States), Professor Tomas A. Reh (University of Washington), and Professor Michael Simons (Yale University), were invited to give three keynote lectures. Professor Kang Zhang (University of California), Professor Xian-Jie Yang (University of California), Professor Vadim Arshavsky (Duke University), Professor J. Fielding Hejtmancik (NEI/NIH) and Professor Xuri Li (Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center) et al were invited to give speeches at six scientific sessions on “Ocular Cell Biology and Engineering”, "Retinal and RPE Stem Cells”, "Retinal Cell Biology and Physiology”, "RPE Physiology and Disease”, "Ocular Disease Mechanisms and Translational Research”, and “Ocular Vascular Biology”.

Selected out of nearly 100 contributions from the participants, 20 students were invited to give presentations at the “Graduate Students Presentation” session. 14 ophthalmic experts attended the this session and voted 13 best posters, which were awarded to the students from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Zhengzhou University, Ophthalmic Research Institute of Henan, Jinan University, Tianjin Medical University and Fudan University.

The 6th National Forum of Graduate Students in Ophthalmology & World Congress on Ocular Cell and Regenerative Biology was aimed at improving the academic level of domestic ophthalmology research and promoting the communication. It has also improved the international academic influence of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center.
