The 2015 undergraduate student exchange program between Guanghua School of Stomatology and University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry held

From March 26 to April 17, 2015, the undergraduate student exchange program between Guanghua School of Stomatology of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and College of Dentistry of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) was successfully held. This was the second exchange program between the two schools, with five students from UIC College of Dentistry coming to study at Guanghua School of Stomatology.

On the afternoon of March 26, Secretary Li Xiangzhi, Executive Deputy Dean Cheng Bin, Deputy Dean Lin Huancai, Assistant Dean Wei Xi and professors from Guanghua School of Stomatology met with the UIC students. On behalf of Guanghua School of Stomatology, Prof. Lin Huancai extended a warm welcome and introduced the School’s development as well as the study arrangement for the exchange students. Prof. Peng Zhixiang shared the study experience of the first group of UIC exchange students as well as his own experience as a visiting scholar in the United States. On behalf of the exchange students, Jasmin Guzman thanked the School for the warm reception and looked forward to broadening their horizons and improving their capabilities in the study visit.

During their stay, the exchange students had clinical internship in Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics Department, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Prosthodontics Department and Pediatric Dentistry Department. They studied in each department for an average of four days, observing and practicing.

Moreover, the exchange students attended the 2015 Dental South China International Expo, the undergraduate students book report meeting, and the lecture in Oral Implantology. They participated in the dental health education activity in North Campus Kindergarten. They tasted Cantonese food in the Guanghua Food Festival. They also visited the Zhujiang New Town Clinic of Hospital of Stomatology, the North Campus and South Campus of SYSU, and famous scenic spots in Guangzhou.

On the afternoon of April 17, the program summary meeting was held. The exchange students from UIC College of Dentistry reported on their study and life in Guangzhou. They learned more diverse knowledge in dental medicine, received high-level guidance in clinical practice, and experienced the Chinese culture. Prof. Lin Huancai presented certificates and Prof. Cheng Bin presented souvenirs to the exchange students.
