On March 6-7, 2015, nearly 50 doctors and nurses from Department of Gynecology and Department of Breast Oncology of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC) went to Lianshan County, Qingyuan to offer free health consultation and cancer screening for women in the remote area.

At the opening ceremony of the activity, Peng Wangqing, Deputy Secretary of SYSUCC Party Committee, pointed out that breast cancer and cervical cancer are two common malignant tumors in women, and the incidence among younger women has shown a tendency of increase in recent years. Early diagnosis and treatment is an important measure to reduce incidence, improve prognosis and increase quality of life.
Specialists including Prof. Liu Jihong, chief expert in gynecology, participated in the event, which was warmly welcomed by local residents. 180 women received free medical consultations, and 900 women received free screening of breast cancer and cervical cancer in the activity.
Lecture on cancer prevention
Meanwhile, SYSUCC experts also gave lectures on cancer prevention, organized one-on-one communication, and exchanged experience in treatment, nursing and management with doctors and nurses from the People’s Hospital of Lianshan County.
In answer to the call from the Cancer Foundation of China, SYSUCC has participated in the free consultation and screening activity for women for nine consecutive years. A total of 10,000 women have benefited from the activity.
