The lack of quality medical resources in East Guangzhou is expected to be alleviated. Yesterday, Huangpu District and Huangpu Part of The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University jointly held the 1st Medical Forum of East Guangzhou. The reporter learned that Huangpu Part of The First Affiliated Hospital of SYSU will be renamed and upgraded as the East Hospital of The First Affiliated Hospital of SYSU. The construction of two new buildings for diagnosis and treatment will start at year end at the earliest, increasing bed capacity by 600.
"The existing 600 beds in Huangpu Part have been operating at an overload," says Professor He Xiaoshun, Deputy President of The First Affiliated Hospital of SYSU. In order to meet the demand for medical services of residents from the surrounding areas, a new building for internal medicine and a new building for out-patient department and emergency department will be constructed using self-raised funds. The number of beds in the new hospital will reach 1,200. The next step is to improve disciplinary layout of the hospital, and raise the level of cardiac surgery, especially heart transplantation, cancer, digestive medicine, gynaecology and obstetrics.
It is learned from the forum that as the only grade-three class-A hospital in Huangpu District, Huangpu Part of The First Affiliated Hospital of SYSU has established bilateral transfer of patients with several community health centers in Huangpu, improving the embarrassing situation in the past when patients could only be transferred from communities to big hospitals while having difficulties being transferred back for rehabilitation.
