This year’s competition consisted of the preliminaries in five areas nationwide and the final in Changsha. 117 universities, which included 90% of bachelor’s degree in clinical medicine throughout China, took part in the preliminaries. On the basis of preliminary selection, 168 participants from 42 teams stood out in the final. The final involved 128 clinical skills in internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, paediatrics, emergency medicine, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, dermatology, otolaryngology, pathology, medical imaging and related knowledge to improve medical students' clinical thinking ability and operation level with teaching and promote the development of medical education. The contest highlights the aim of "showing elite performance, advocating science and mastering medicine". The contents and difficulty of this competition have increased year by year. SYSU has won three successive championships in the competition, the only medical contest promoted by the Ministry of Education in China. This fully reflects the profound tradition of Sun Yat-sen University with a history of nearly one hundred and fifty years of medical education, and shows the education idea of "dedication to teaching, students and learning" once again.

The Dean’s Office of Medical Education is engaged in the selection and training of the contestants. The instructor group is selected from the affiliated hospitals of Sun Yat-sen University. The Clinical Skills Center of Sun Yat-sen University is responsible for carrying out the training work.
