Volunteers of this activity were mainly from 2012 postgraduate class and 2011 undergraduate class 3 of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The students displayed knowledge of safe drug use on the board and carefully explained the details to community residents. At the same time, they distributed Manual of Safe and Rational Drug Use on the scene and worked with community health workers to offer free diagnosis. In addition, the volunteers participated in the interactive sessions such as the adward-winning Q&A of pharmaceutical knowledge with community residents. Several media including GDTV reported the activity.
It is learned that the “safe and rational drug use in community” public benefit activity was initiated by the CYL Committee of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences with its professional advantages. Since its launch in June, 2011, this activity has received project funding from many units, including SYSU Student Affairs Office, SYSU Youth Association, the CYL Guangzhou Municipal Committee and Times Property Charity Fund. Communities around SYSU South Campus and Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center are chosen as the major service points. Community service activities are held two or three times a month, aimed at building a social practice platform for pharmacy students to learn in the process of offering service, cultivating students’ sense of social responsibility and humanistic feelings, and exploring a sustainable road for campus public benefit projects.
