On December 28, 2025, a Vietnamese media delegation paid a visit to Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), where an exchange event was held as a key stop of the China-Vietnam 2025 Media Tour in Guangzhou.

Held at Lingnan Hall on the university's South Campus, the event was organized by Guangdong Radio and Television (GRT) and co-organized by SYSU.

As 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam and the "China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchange," the gathering served as a vital platform for dialogue.

The event brought together over 100 representatives from government agencies, media outlets, and academic institutions of both nations to discuss strengthening the public foundation for a shared future. Professor Junkai Niu, Dean of the School of International Relations at SYSU, presided over the meeting.

A Century of Shared History

Yan Huang, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the SYSU Party Committee, highlighted the university's profound and unique historical ties with Vietnam. She noted that SYSU has remained a vital platform for educational cooperation and cultural dialogue for over a century.

“SYSU has maintained a century-long bond with Vietnam, consistently fostering educational cooperation and cultural dialogue,” Huang stated. "As a platform for the mutual learning of civilizations, SYSU is committed to deepening practical cooperation in research and youth exchange to contribute to the enduring friendship between our two nations".

Strategic Media and Diplomatic Synergy

Nguyen Viet Hung, the Vietnamese Consul General in Guangzhou, underscored the strategic importance of the media tour, noting the participation of 11 major Vietnamese media outlets. He described the event as a concrete step in implementing the consensus reached by the leaders of both nations to consolidate public support for bilateral relations.

Qingjian Lin,Director of International Department of Guangdong Radio and Television, stated that GRT has established a long-term cooperation mechanism with Vietnam National Television (VTV). The partnership will focus on content sharing and innovative storytelling to better narrate the evolving friendship between China and Vietnam in the new era.

Academic Insights and Intellectual Exchange

The thematic discussion session featured academic contributions from experts including Yongfu Feng, Truong Thi Bich Hanh, and Lin Meng. They explored topics ranging from the historical evolution of SYSU's interactions with Vietnam to innovative talent cultivation for bilateral cooperation. Media representatives also explored strategies to enhance communication effectiveness through new media technologies.

To symbolize the spirit of knowledge sharing, representatives from SYSU, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and GRT presented a collection of books to the Vietnamese delegation.
