Guangzhou Daily News The permanent site and central secretariat of Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) will move to Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou. It is a milestone because APAO is the first international medical academic organization that sets its headquarters in China.
APAO has 19 members, covering more than half of the world’s population. The relocation means that China’s ophthalmology with Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center as its representative has gained recognition from the international ophthalmic field and will facilitate the development of headquarters economy in Guangzhou.
On the afternoon of January 16th, at the 28th APAO Congress held in Hyderabad, India, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University stood out from the competition with ophthalmic institutions in Singapore and Hong Kong. The permanent site of APAO will settle in the building of State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology to be completed by the end of 2014 in Zhujiang New Town Division of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University. Moreover, Guangzhou will host the 30th APAO Congress in 2015.
