From our correspondent: Researchers in Sun Yat-sen University have developed a product that can repair peripheral nerve defects. It is independently developed in China and it is also the only officially approved artificial nerve conduit for the repair of nerve defect in the country. It has been granted production registration certificate and has been approved for clinical use and sale on the market. In popular terms, when people with injured arms or legs are having nerve repair surgeries, it can replace nerve autografts that are commonly used in the surgeries.
The full name of this product is “acellular nerve allograft artificial nerve conduit for the repair of nerve defect”, or in abbreviation, “Shen Qiao” (meaning “Magic Bridge”). It is used for bridging nerve defects, and it is an alternative to nerve autografts used in peripheral nerve repair.
According to the scientific appraisal co-organized by Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology and Department of Health of Guangdong Province, and made by top experts in the same field in China, “Shen Qiao” is said to be on the whole at the advanced level in the world and some of its technologies have reached the world’s leading level.
