From July 20 to 26, SYSU Alumni Association, The Third Affiliated Hospital of SYSU and Qinghai Sumanzhuba Charity Foundation went to Yushu, Qinghai to offer gratuitous treatment. Li Ping, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, Cheng Huanwen, Assistant to SYSU President, Li Hanrong, Director of Education Development & Alumni Affairs, Long Bo, Deputy Dean of Graduate School, Zhu Jiangang, Deputy Director of School of Philanthropy, Huang Tao, Deputy Secretary of School of Information Management, Chen Guihua, President of The Third Affiliated Hospital, Li Qiaolan, Secretary of The Third Affiliated Hospital, Rong Limin, Deputy President of The Third Affiliated Hospital, a medical team consisting of 13 medical staff, and staff from relevant departments went to Jiegu Town, Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Nangqian County People’s Hospital, and Damaozhuang Town to offer free medical consultations and donate badly-needed medicine and first aid equipment to the clinics in local schools.

Initiated by SYSU Alumni Association, and based on the credibility and charisma of the university, this activity unites university, foundation, hospital and media together to carry out an “in-depth charity action aimed at the future and focused on the effect”. All the expenses are sponsored by SYSU alumni. Among the group of nearly 80 people are doctors, scholars, stars and etc. The alumni did charity work as they traveled, donating various living facilities including tables, chairs and over 6,500 clothes.
In consideration of inconvenient transportation and lack of medicine, The Third Affiliated Hospital gave free medicines to almost every one of the over 1,000 patients who came for free medical consultations in Jiegu Town, Nangqian County and Damaozhuang Town. Patients with serious liver diseases even received medicines for six months treatment. The professors compiled and printed handbooks of health care and gave them away during gratuitous treatment to promote disease prevention, publicity and education. The Third Affiliated Hospital also brought five “Bohui Clinics” to five local schools and prepared detailed instructions.

In order to increase the local level of medical diagnosis and treatment, The Third Affiliated Hospital decides to assist the local government in talent training, help Nangqian County People’s Hospital to rapidly improve its liver disease section, infection section, ultrasonic diagnosis section and clinical laboratory. In fact, from April to July this year, Nangqian County People’s Hospital sent 7 medical staff, led by its president Ecairen, to The Third Affiliated Hospital to study. The Third Affiliated Hospital appointed a supervisor with the title of Associate Chief Physician or above to each trainee doctor, providing one-to-one whole course guidance. Upon their return to hometown, the 7 doctors became the backbone of the local hospital.
At the experience sharing meeting, Deputy Secretary Li Ping told the group that she was deeply moved by the spirit of helping people as much as you can and offering sincere service, and she once again felt the warmth of society.
