First A(H1N1)-influenza-infected Patient in Stable Condition in the Fifth Affiliated Hospital

On 2 June, analysis of the sample of the patient involved in suspected A(H1N1) influenza yielded positive results for the flu virus, conducted by Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Guangdong Province. The patient is currently receiving medical treatment in the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU. The flu case was diagnosed as imported A(H1N1) influenza by the medical experts of Guangdong, and confirmed by the Ministry of Health. This is the first imported A(H1N1) influenza case in Zhuhai.

The patient is a Chinese American, who was sent to the Fifth Affiliated Hospital by ambulance. Recently, the patient has been quarantined for medical treatment, and is in good physical and mental condition.

On 1 June, Liao Xinbo, vice-head of Guangdong Health Department, paid a special visit to the Fifth Affiliated Hospital for inspection of the control, prevention and treatment of A(H1N1) influenza, and regarded as positive the efforts made by the hospital. On the evening of 2 June, after the first case of imported A(H1N1) influenza was confirmed, Zhong Shijian, mayor of Zhuhai Government, and Deng Qunfang, vice-mayor, visited the patient and expressed their appreciation to medical staff’s efforts.

Reportedly, the Fifth Affiliated Hospital had been designated by Zhuhai Government to receive patients infected with A(H1N1) influenza for medical treatment. In order to do a good job in the control and prevention of the flu, the hospital had established a leading group to deal with the emergency of A(H1N1) influenza and an expert team to make contingency plan for the control and prevention of the flu. Fever clinic, special quarantine areas had also been set up in addition to the reserved hospital beds and anti-virus medicine for the sufficient preparation of the control and prevention efforts. In the meantime, , the hospital had organized workshops to provide training for flu control and prevention so as to promote the control and prevention awareness for the medical staff, avoiding the possible flu transmission in the hospital.
