KUANG Ming

Assistant President

Ming KUANG, male, was born in January 1973. He is a Professor of Medicine and Doctoral Supervisor, a recipient of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He received his master’s degree from the seven-year clinical medicine program in 1998 and worked at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. From 2001 to 2004, he worked as a research fellow at RIKEN Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (Tsukuba Branch, Japan). Prof. Kuang earned his PhD degree in Surgery of Sun Yat-sen University in 2004.

Prof. Kuang has long been devoted to the mechanism investigation, precisive prevention and treatment of hepatobiliary cancer recurrence and metastasis. He was awarded the unique "Clinical Novelty Gold Award" at the International Ablation Summit in 2013; the Second Prize of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award in 2008 and 2018; the First Prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award in 2008 and 2019; the title of "Cover Figure of China's Science and Technology Achievements" by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2020; and the Baogang Excellent Teacher Award in 2022, etc.

Currently, Prof. Kuang is serving as a member of the 10th National Commission of China Association for Science and Technology, Director of the Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center for National Surgical Intelligent Instruments, Vice Chairman of the Surgical Science Committee for Capacity Building and Continuing Education of the National Health Commission, Deputy Director of the Liver Cancer Quality Control Committee of the National Cancer Center, Project Leader for the 2030 New Generation Artificial Intelligence Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Deputy Director of the Liver Cancer Professional Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, and Chairman of the Liver Cancer Branch of the Guangdong Medical Association.

Prof. Kuang became the Vice President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in January 2015. From July 2021, he became the Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, and later in November 2022, he became the Deputy Director of the Health Science Center and Dean of Medical Education, SYSU. Since December 2023, he has been serving as the Assistant to the President of Sun Yat-sen University.
