LUO Jun

Prof. LUO Jun, a native of Xiantao, Hubei Province, was born in November, 1956. He was elected Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009.

Prof. Luo Jun received his B.S. degree in the Department of Physical Chemistry in Huazhong Institute of Technology (HIT) in 1982 and then joined the HIT faculty. In 1985, he completed his M.S. study in HIT and received his M.S. degree in SYSU. He became a professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 1994. He obtained his Ph.D. from Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999.

Prof. Luo Jun’s research fields are precision measurement physics and gravitational experiments. His professional accomplishments include: Experimental determination of Newtonian gravitational constant G and the values were collected by CODATA since 1998; new upper limit on the photon mass was collected by Particle Data Group (2004); first develop and determine the WEP for extended rotating bodies; tests of Newtonian inverse square law in short ranges; and more than 150 refereed journal publications since 1985.

Prof. Luo Jun became Vice-President of Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST) in July 2010, and Executive Vice-President of HUST in July 2013. He was appointed as President of Sun Yat-sen University in January 2015. In April 2017, he became Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee and President of Sun Yat-sen University.
