Prof. Jun Ma obtained his medical degree (MD) from Sun Yat-sen University (formerly Zhongshan Medical University) in 1990. Now he is the Executive Vice-president of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center.
Prof. Ma currently serves as the convener of the Special Medical Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. He is also a member of the 8th Education Ministry's Science and Technology Committee in the field of life sciences and medicine. Additionally, he is an executive editor for Cancer Communications and serves as the Joint Chair and Lead for Nasopharyngeal Cancer Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines Committee of Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO-ASCO).
His primary focus is on clinical diagnosis and treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). He has conducted a series of studies aimed at improving the treatment efficacy of NPC, significantly reducing the risk of metastasis, and benefiting patients globally. As the primary contributor, he has been awarded two Second Prizes for National Science and Technology Progress Award (in 2015 and 2009) and three First Prizes for Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award (in 2007, 2014, and 2023). He has also received the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award (2022), the Wu Jieping Medical Innovation Award (2020), and the Tan Jiazhen Clinical Medicine Award (2023). In 2023, he was elected as an academician of the Life Sciences and Medical Sciences Division of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
