Prof. Gu Jieruo and Prof. Wei Xi win CMWA Wuzhou Women Science and Technology Award

The fourth award ceremony of CMWA Wuzhou Women Science and Technology Award was held in Beijing on July 25, 2015. Prof. Gu Jieruo from The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and Prof. Wei Xi from Guanghua School of Stomatology of Sun Yat-sen University win the clinical research innovation award.

The CMWA Wuzhou Women Science and Technology Award was initiated by China Medical Women’s Association (CMWA) and GlobalCare Women and Children's Hospital (formerly known as Beijing Wuzhou Women’s Hospital) in 2008. The award ceremony is held every two years. The 4th CMWA Wuzhou Women Science and Technology Award has 25 winners, including 4 winners of the basic medical research innovation award, 5 winners of the medical (health) administration innovation award, and 16 winners of the clinical research innovation award.

Prof. Gu Jieruo is Director of Rheumatology and Immunology Department of The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. She is an international member of American College of Rheumatology, committee member of Assessment of Spondyloarthritis International Society, and vice-chairwoman of Rheumatology Department of Chinese Medical Association. Prof. Gu heads research groups that do basic studies in the genome area and clinical researches of spondyloarthropathies, especially ankylosing spondylitis. She is among world-wide principal investigators in multiple clinical trials of diagnosis and novel therapy in spondyloarthropathies.

Dr. Wei Xi received her BDS degree from West China School of Stomatology of Sichuan University in 1993. She then achieved a Master degree from College of Stomotology of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1996, and PhD degree from Guanghua School of Stomatology of Sun Yat-sen University in 2007. She completed her MDS degree in the specialty of Endodontics at the School of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong. Dr. Wei currently serves as Professor and Director in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at Guanghua School of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University. She is an active member of the standing committee of Society of Cariology and Endodontics, Chinese Stomatological Association. She is also the fellow of International College of Dentists. Dr. Wei received several Science and Technology Awards from Ministry of Education of China, from Chinese Stomatological Association, and from Guangdong Provincial Government respectively. She has published over 110 scientific papers and co-authored several books. She is the outside reviewer for the Journal of Endodontics.
