At the invitation of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Yushu Municipal Committee, a 16-member team led by Xia Dan, Secretary of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center at Sun Yat-sen University, went to Yushu, Qinghai on July 14, 2015.
The medical team from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center is performing a cataract surgery in Yushu.
The medical team started work immediately after they arrived at Yushu Bayi Hospital. With the concerted efforts of the team members, including Huang Wenyong, Huang Shengsong, Liu Bin, Ye Yiming, Zhang Hairong, Li Yuetao, Yang Qiongman, Pan Hong, Ye Ronghua and Song Liangwen, more than 800 people received the free diagnosis and a total of 178 high-quality cataract surgeries were performed.
The Tibetan boy and his father after the cataract surgery
On July 17, the eleven-year-old Tibetan boy who had congenital cataract came to Yushu after a seven-hour motor bike journey. Professor Wang Zhenfang performed the cataract surgery for the boy, and Guo Wenjun was in charge of the general anesthesia. On the second day after the surgery, the boy gained eyesight of 0.6, and could clearly see his father beside him. His father said in excitement: “I’ll send him to school. Now he can see and he will be able to read. This surgery will change his fate!”
Presenting Hada to the medical team
The Tibetan people presented Hada to the medical team to express their gratitude. The team members posted on social media: When I saw the joy and excitement after the patients regained their eyesight, I felt the value of my career.
