Recently, the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University (FAH-SYSU) and its major partner, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) renewed the agreements on cooperation.
On July 16, 2010, the
Affiliation Agreement and the
Program Agreement on Postdoctoral Exchange were signed, and the following 5 years witnessed vigorous collaboration and exchange between the two institutions.
Programs established since 2010 include:
1. Postdoctoral Exchange
Joint selection of 5-10 postdoctoral scholars for 2 years research experience in UT Southwestern Medical Center
(1st cohort: 8 scholars, March 2011–February 2013; 2nd cohort: 9 scholars, September 2013–August 2015)
2. Clinical Observation
Short-term observational training for 8 doctors (6 weeks) and 6 nurses (2 weeks) in 2012
3. Joint Forum
"Joint Forum & Workshops between The First Affiliated Hospital, SYSU & UT Southwestern Medical Center" in 2012
4. Student Exchange
2013 summer: 2 first-year students, two-month placements in TCM and Ob&Gyn respectively
2015 summer: 1 second-year student, two-month placements in TCM
After several rounds of discussion, both sides have reached consensus and signed the renewed agreements, which will be effective from July 16, 2015 through July 15, 2020. The renewal of agreements marks a further partnership with UT Southwestern Medical Center and a milestone of the hospital’s development into an internationally recognized general hospital.
