In May 2014, a mini movie called Where Did the Time Go? started to spread among health professionals in Zhuhai, Zhongshan and Jiangmen in Guangdong province. It is the first of a series of mini movies that are written, directed and acted by The Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. With no promotion, the mini movie has attracted over 400,000 hits in Tencent Video. It records the real and busy life of an ordinary head nurse, which resonates with many doctors and nurses. “This is our work and life. I can see myself in it!” said a nurse after watching the mini movie.

The hospital leadership offered full support for shooting the mini movies. “Our intention was not to participate in a competition or to win an award. We wanted to let the society understand our medical professionals. A true story will not only touch our patients but also strike a chord with our doctors and nurses, and will exert a subtle influence on them.” In 2014, a call for mini movie screenplays was announced in the hospital. Within a short period of time, ten screenplays were submitted, three out of which have been produced.

My Aspiration tells the career choice and perseverance of two generations of a doctor’s family. For the doctor, the patient is always the priority. Although there are grievances and misunderstandings, there is strength beyond tears. The role models have great impact. When Love Meets a Resident Doctor depicts the difficulties of a young resident doctor in a humorous way. When working overtime and eating instant noodles have become a routine, what will be the outcome of his love? Me and My Patient is based on a true story. The patient is grateful to the doctor and falls in love with him. However, when the pursuit becomes a disturbance, how will the doctor solve the problem? In some cases, the patient’s physical recovery is not enough, and psychological recovery is also crucial.

Since they were shown on the hospital’s big screen, LCD and the intranet, or could be downloaded, the mini movies have elicited positive responses. "Hey, aren’t you Dr. Yang in the mini movie? I saw you on the hospital’s big screen." The patient was surprised, but the distance between the doctor and the patient became closer instantly. A doctor who played the role of a patient in the mini movie said that the experience allowed him to put himself in the patient’s shoes, and he would communicate with his patients better in the future. This is what the producers intended in the first place.
