On November 10, 2014, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and Cleveland Clinic opened the International ePathology Consultation Center at The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU. Dr. Wang Jianping, Executive Vice President of SYSU; Dr. Lan Ping, President of The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU; Mr. Miao Wei, Party Secretary of The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU; directors of pathology department from 8 affiliated hospitals of SYSU; and Dr. Thomas Bauer, Director of ePathology Center of Cleveland Clinic, attended the opening ceremony. The ePathology Consultation Center, based on close cooperation between SYSU Pathology Committee and Cleveland Clinic Laboratories, is the biggest consultation center all across the country and opens at The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU.
The Opening Ceremony of International ePathology Consultation Center
The opening ceremony, which began at 11:00 am, was hosted by Mr. Miao Wei. Dr. Wang Jianping gave an opening address and expressed his congratulation. He said that he tasted the sweetness of consultation service five years ago and believed the center is a strong combination between Chinese and American medical institution. He also emphasized that the center could increase accuracy of diagnosis which would benefit patients at last.
Then, Dr. Thomas Bauer gave an opening address in which the cooperation between the two hospitals was mentioned. He was pleased to announce the collaboration, and looked forward to a positive, long-term collaborative experience.
In order to centralize all resources and interpret difficult cases, SYSU has launched the biggest pathology consultation center of South China. The center delivers more than 30,000 consulting pathology cases across the country annually, and the number is still increasing rapidly. The Center has a staff of more than 100 experienced pathologists in many subspecialty areas.
Cleveland Clinic Laboratories is one of the most prestigious educational institution, providing world-class expertise in anatomic, clinical and molecular pathology with 80 board-certified pathologists. The center offers subspecialty services in cytopathology, gastroenterology, dermatopathology, and neuropathology. It ranked first in academic field for several times.
The International ePathology Consultation Center is built by SYSU and Cleveland Clinic together, with ePathology consultation platform and related technologies, aimed at sharing Sino-American pathologists with subspecialty expertise and providing world-class consultation for doctors and patients.
The center is established in The Six Affiliated Hospital of SYSU for now, which possesses training programs for pathological specialists and enjoys a high reputation in the whole Guangdong province, especially in the fields of gastrointestinal tumors and inflammatory bowel diseases.
