The XII Forum on Fungal Infection in the Clinical Practice of Latin America was held from October 16th to 18th 2014 at Curitiba, Brazil (http://www.infocus2014.com.br). This congress gave an opportunity to bring together the Medical Mycology community and to share their knowledge with clinicians, microbiologists, researchers and postgraduate students.

Associate Professor Feng Peiying gave a presentation at the XII Forum on Fungal Infection in the Clinical Practice, Brazil.

Associate Professor Feng Peiying (Department of Dermatology, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University) was the only Chinese invited speaker. She gave presentation on topic of “Disseminated Penicillium marneffei infection with skin lesions mimicking pancreatic panniculitis”. Penicillium marneffei is the most important thermal dimorphic fungus causing systemic mycosis in China. The infection caused by this pathogen, Penicillosis marneffei, will soon be regarded as neglected tropical due to the lower degree of funding and research focus which it receives compared to Malaria, HIV/AIDs and Tuberculosis. There was an open and active discussion among participants focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of Penicillosis marneffei, which provided them with information on Penicillosis marneffei in our country and stress the importance of this disease in the discussion.
