On the morning of June 9, the four-week 2014 undergraduate student exchange program between Guanghua School of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University and University of Glasgow Dental School was officially launched. This year the exchange program received six students from Glasgow Dental School.

The launching ceremony was held in the Lecture Hall of Guanghua School of Stomatology. The attendees included Secretary Li Xiangzhi, Executive Deputy Dean Cheng Bin, Deputy Dean Lin Huancai, Assistant Dean Wang Yan and the tutors from Guanghua School of Stomatology.
On behalf of Guanghua School of Stomatology, Deputy Dean Lin Huancai extended a warm welcome to the exchange students, and introduced the School’s development, characteristics and undergraduate education. Then Miss Francesca Capaldi gave a speech on behalf of the exchange students. She thanked the Guanghua School of Stomatology for the warm reception and hoped to broaden their field of view and improve their ability during the study visit. In the evening, Xiao Haipeng, Dean of Medical Education,SYSU, met with the exchange students and asked about their study arrangement at SYSU.
Next, the exchange students will start a four week clinical internship in Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics Department, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Prosthodontics Department and Pediatric Dentistry Department at Hospital of Stomatology of SYSU. They will also visit various types of stomatological institutions and take part in community dental health education. The study and social practice will enable the exchange students to have a better understanding of the dental health care system in China.
Meanwhile, six exchange students from Guanghua School of Stomatology arrived in Glasgow two weeks ago for a four week study at Glasgow Dental School. This dental-undergraduate-students exchange program is the first between universities in China and the UK. It is a milestone in the history of Chinese stomatological education and is significant for the internationalization of stomatological education at SYSU.
