China Stroke Conference 2014 was convened from May 16th to 18th in Beijing. The conference was co-hosted by Stroke Screening and Prevention Committee of National Health and Family Planning Commission as well as Chinese Preventive Medicine Association. Nearly 5,000 delegates including domestic and overseas specialists, members of the Chinese stroke preventive leadership team, hospital presidents, and clinical and health care professionals attended the conference. Twenty-three academic forums were held in 10 parallel sessions. More than 300 specialists delivered their lectures. The conference received over 900 academic papers. Among them, 6 won first prize, 13 received second prize, and 29 were awarded third prize.
Prof. YAN Tiebin at China Stroke Conference 2014
The study conducted by Prof.YAN Tiebin's team was awarded first prize. The title of the paper is "Barriers to activity and participation for stroke survivors in the rural areas of China" (First author is ZHANG Lifang, doctoral candidate, School of Nursing of Sun Yat-sen University; corresponding author is YAN Tiebin, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital). The study was a preliminary report which described the living status of stroke survivors in the rural areas of Guangdong province, China and explored the environmental barriers limiting activities and restricting participation of stroke survivors. The further study will cover 6 counties of Guangdong province and explore the environmental factors affecting activity and participation of stroke survivors by the quantitative and qualitative methods.
This study was jointly conducted by researchers from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, School of Nursing of Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong Branch of Red Cross Society of China, and Guangzhou BaiYunShan Qixing Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd..
