In the afternoon on April 8, the Sun Yat-sen University Cardiovascular Research Group &
Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology (
ATVB) Symposium was held by The First Affiliated Hospital and Zhongshan School of Medicine of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). The symposium chairman was Jing-song Ou, Professor of the Division of Cardiac Surgery of The First Affiliated Hospital, recipient of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and Pearl River Scholar Professor. Prof. Shen-ming Wang, President of The First Affiliated Hospital, attended the symposium and gave a welcoming remark. Prof. Alan Daugherty, Editor-in-Chief of the famous cardiovascular journal
ATVB, Senior Associate Dean for Research of College of Medicine at University of Kentucky and director of Saha Cardiovascular Research Center, gave a lecture. About 200 people from SYSU and other medical colleges in Guangdong Province attended this symposium.

President Shen-ming Wang expressed a warm welcome to Prof. Alan Daugherty, and hoped this academic exchange would promote cardiovascular research and international cooperation in The First Affiliated Hospital and SYSU. Prof. Alan Daugherty presented their findings entitled “Novel roles of angiotensin peptides in vascular diseases”. He shared with us the findings in angiotensin peptides by his research group. In the meantime, Prof. Wen-hua Ling, Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange of SYSU, Prof. Yan-hua Du from Cardiocerebral Vascular Research Center and Prof. Jing-song Ou also reported on their research findings in the symposium.
After the meeting, Prof. Alan Daugherty, accompanied by Prof. Jing-song Ou, visited the main research platforms of The First Affiliated Hospital and the North Campus of SYSU, including the Key Laboratory of Assisted Circulation of Ministry of Health, Guangdong Province Engineering Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Vascular Diseases, Two-photon microscopy, core facility of North Campus and Cardiocerebral Vascular Research Center of Zhongshan School of Medicine. Prof. Alan Daugherty expressed his appreciation on the construction of research platforms in The First Affiliated Hospital and SYSU.
Since Professor Jing-song Ou worked in The First Affiliated Hospital in 2009, he has invited several international famous cardiovascular scientists, including Professor William C. Sessa, the chairman of North American Vascular Biology Organization and Director of Vascular Biology & Therapeutics Program of Yale University; Professor William M. Chilian, the associate editor of
Circulation Research, Chairman of Integrative Medical Sciences of College of Medicine of Northeast Ohio Medical University; Professor Michael J. Quon, the chief of the Diabetes Unit in the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at NIH, and Professor Alex F. Chen, the director of Department of Vascular Surgery Research in VA of University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
This is the first time in the name of Sun Yan-sen University cardiovascular research group to conduct an academic exchange with the Editor-in-Chief of
ATVB, which can improve the international influence in cardiovascular field for The First Affiliated Hospital and Sun Yat-sen University.
