The 2013 Zhongshan Biomedical International Forum was successfully held on November 22-23. The forum was hosted by The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and sponsored by Sun Yat-sen University, Science and Information Technology Bureau of Guangzhou Municipality, and Chinese Association for Science and Technology, USA. Li Mengfeng, Vice President of SYSU; Zhan Qimin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering; Zhu Dongyan, Director of Division of Cooperation and Exchange of Science and Information Technology Bureau of Guangzhou Municipality; Wang Shenming, President of The First Affiliated Hospital of SYSU; and renowned experts from Harvard University, Yale University, The University of Nottingham, Genome Institute of Singapore, The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Peking University and Sun Yat-sen University attended the opening ceremony.

SYSU Vice President Li Mengfeng fully praised the achievements of The First Affiliated Hospital. He hoped that the hospital could further improve its clinical research through high-level international cooperation and exchange, and make bigger contributions to the development of clinical medicine at SYSU.
Wang Shenming, President of The First Affiliated Hospital, extended warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the guests present at the forum, and hoped that young and middle-aged scholars could expand their scientific horizons through this forum and strive to improve the hospital’s comprehensive strength in scientific research.
The experts gave lectures and discussed the latest development in the fields of genetics, proteomics, biology and immunology. Outstanding young scholars from The First Affiliated Hospital also presented their own research results at the forum. The wonderful lectures and heated discussions won applauses from the audience.
At the end of the forum, Yu Xueqing, Deputy President of The First Affiliated Hospital, made concluding remarks on behalf of the hospital. He encouraged the teachers and students to open their minds, make solid efforts and keep improving their level of scientific research. He also expressed the hope to build “Zhongshan Biomedical International Forum” into an important platform of academic exchange that can improve the international influence of The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.
