According to the collaboration agreement on clinical research between Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and Johns Hopkins University (JHU), on November 8-12, the JHU delegation of 20 specialists on clinical research came to SYSU and its affiliated hospitals to launch the first formal clinical research infrastructure assessment. The assessment included interviews and site visits on leadership and organization, IRB and research ethics, research informatics and bio bank, management and financial issues, statistical and coordinator support, which are the key factors of clinical research.

Meeting with leadership group

During the assessment, the delegation first met with SYSU Vice President Li Mengfeng. Then they had meetings with leadership from colleges and affiliated hospitals for individual interviews. Several symposiums with relevant key members and working staff were held. In addition, the delegation visited the related departments on North Campus, The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, etc.

The assessment was expected to get a comprehensive evaluation on SYSU clinical research status and propose practical measures and improvement suggestions, which may help SYSU build a systemic university-level international clinical and translational medicine research center in the future.
