Yesterday it was learned that the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University held an international ophthalmology forum in conjunction with their 30th anniversary in Guangzhou. The Nobel laureate Professor Andrew V. Schally was invited to give a keynote speech in the forum. Professor Schally won the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1977 in recognition of his research on peptide hormone generation in the brain. He has discussed intent of collaboration with the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center.

According to Professor Liu Yizhi, Director of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, “polypeptide can also inhibit the neovascularization and may be beneficial to diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration.” The forum attracted more than 400 top ophthalmologists and 1,000 delegates from more than 50 countries including the US, UK, Germany, Australia and Japan.
