From August 31 to September 1, The Sixth Affiliated Hospital and The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University co-organized the 3rd Sino-American Gastroenterology Summit Forum, focusing on the joint approach of IBD by multiple disciplines.
The 3rd Sino-American Gastroenterology Summit Forum
The forum was held for the purpose of cooperation, interactivity and improvement, in which the cutting edge issues in international gastroenterology and complex clinical cases were discussed. The joint approach for Ulcerative Colitis and complex Crohn's Disease (combining with stricture and fistula) was discussed by experts in multiple disciplines. Therefore, this forum has become an iconic conference in the field of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
This forum was co-hosted by Sun Yat-sen University in China and Cleveland Clinic in America, in association with Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery. Prof. Wang Jianping, Executive Vice President of SYSU, and Prof. Hu Pinjin of The Sixth Affiliated Hospital were the honorary chairmen. Prof. Chen Minhu of The First Affiliated Hospital and Prof. Lan Ping of The Sixth Affiliated Hospital were the executive chairmen. Over 400 scholars and experts attended the forum.
In light of the increasing global attention on IBD, the organizing committee invited famous experts in the IBD field of medicine, surgery, pathology and imaging to give lectures and host complex case discussions.
Prof. Michael Kam from Australia gave a speech on “State of Art Refractory UC”; Prof. Siew Ng from Hong Kong introduced the research progression in "Emerging Medical Therapy in IBD”; Prof. Feza Remzi from the United States described “the surgical approaches on the complex abdominal situations in IBD”; Prof. Qian Jiaming form Gastroenterology Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital discussed “the pregnancy and delivery of IBD patients” with participants. Prof. Chen Minhu, Vice-president of The First Affiliated Hospital and Chief of Gastroenterology Department, gave a lecture on "the diagnosis and therapy of risk factors in IBD patients”. Prof. Lan Ping, President of The Sixth Affiliated Hospital, brought new inspirations to participants with the topic “what should surgeons do in IBD?” Prof. Hu Pinjin, Director of Medicine Division and IBD Center of The Sixth Affiliated Hospital, provided new ideas on the joint approach by "diagnosis of IBD with multiple disciplines cooperation and one-step-service”. In-depth discussion on the stricture and fistula of CD was conducted and case discussions from various hospitals were hosted to broaden the views of participants.
Prof. Wang Jianping stated in the closing remarks that experts from home and abroad discussed complex cases of IBD from multiple perspectives and multiple disciplines, which was important for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of IBD. The forum provided a communication platform for global IBD experts. He hoped that there would be more similar academic conferences for the emerging of medicine-surgery joint approach of IBD.
