On July 27, a volunteer medical service team of The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University drove the “Happy Guangdong Healthy Path” Health Express into Hongguang Village, Waxi Town, Zijin County, Heyuan City, offering medical consultation and medicine to the villagers.
The volunteer medical service team, consisting of six medical personnel from the departments of Orthopedics, Nephrology, Burn Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology, Cardiac Intervention and Pharmacy, set off from Guangzhou at 8 a.m. on that day, and finally arrived at the place after more than three hours’ driving in the rain.

Medical volunteers offering medical consultation to a villager
During the three-hour activity, the volunteers provide free medical consultations to over a hundred patients, sent medicine packages to 113 poor households, and handed out health brochures and leaflets. They patiently explained to the villagers how to use medicine correctly, and exchanged with medical staff from the local clinic, providing professional guidance on some common orthopedic diseases caused by rickets.
Located in a hinterland of Zijin County, Heyuan City, Hongguang Village is shut in by hills. Due to traffic inconvenience, it is hard for the villagers to see a doctor in the county. The activity of the volunteer medical service team of The First Affiliated Hospital helped relieve the problem.
